About JSON Validator
JSON Validator checks whether your text is valid JSON and tells you exactly where the first error is, by line and column. If it is valid, it tells you what the top-level value is.
Tips for best results
- Check the line and column in the message, then look just before that point, since the real mistake is often a missing comma right before it.
- JSON does not allow comments.
- Numbers cannot start with a plus sign or have leading zeros.
How to use JSON Validator
- 1
Paste your JSON
Add the text you want to check.
- 2
Read the result
A green message means it is valid. A red message explains the error.
- 3
Fix and re-check
Edit the text in the box. The check updates as you type.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between JSON and a JavaScript object?
JSON is stricter. Keys must be in double quotes, and values cannot be functions, undefined or comments.
Can it validate against a schema?
Not yet. It checks that the text is valid JSON syntax.
Is my data uploaded?
No. This tool runs inside your browser, so your data is processed on your own phone or computer and is not sent to our servers.
