How to Remove Duplicate Rows from a CSV File

4 min read · Updated October 2026

Mailing lists, customer exports and product feeds collect duplicates over time. Duplicates waste money, send people the same email twice and spoil your counts. Removing them is one of the quickest ways to improve a data file.

Whole row or chosen columns?

If two rows are exactly the same in every column, they are duplicates. But often only one field decides, such as Email or Order ID. Tick that column and rows with the same value are treated as repeats, even if the names differ.

How to remove duplicates

  • Open CSV Duplicate Remover and choose your file.
  • Tick the columns to compare, or leave all unticked.
  • Decide whether to ignore capital letters and extra spaces.
  • Check how many duplicates were found and download the cleaned file.

Ignoring case and spaces

asha@example.com and Asha@Example.com are the same address, and so are values with a space at the end. Keeping both options on catches these hidden duplicates.

Good habits

  • The first row of each group is kept, so sort your file first if you want to keep the newest.
  • Keep the original file until you have checked the result.
  • Compare the counts before and after.
