How to make one

  • Open Barcode Generator and type the value.
  • Choose the barcode type.
  • Choose whether to show the number under the barcode.
  • Download the image.

Which type?

  • Code 128: any text or numbers, good for inventory.
  • EAN-13 and EAN-8: retail products.
  • UPC-A: products in North America.
  • Code 39: capital letters, numbers and a few symbols.
  • ITF-14: cartons and packaging.

Official product codes

Retail EAN and UPC numbers are issued by GS1. Making a barcode image does not give you the right to use a number. For selling in shops, get official numbers.

Test

Check that a scanner reads the printed barcode, and keep a quiet blank margin on both sides.
