How to use the converter

  • Choose a type: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed or time.
  • Type the value and pick the From and To units.
  • Read the answer and use Swap units to reverse it.

Handy anchor values

  • 1 inch = 2.54 cm.
  • 1 mile = 1.609 km.
  • 1 kg = 2.205 pounds.
  • 1 litre = 0.264 US gallons.
  • 1 acre = 4,047 square metres.

Temperature is different

Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin do not just scale, they also start at different points. Fahrenheit = Celsius x 9 / 5 + 32. So 100 degrees Celsius is 212 degrees Fahrenheit, and 0 degrees Celsius is 273.15 Kelvin.

Cooking tip

US cups, UK cups and metric cups are slightly different. This converter uses the US cup of about 237 ml. For baking, weighing ingredients in grams is more reliable than measuring by volume.
