When you need images from a PDF

  • Sharing a single page in a chat app.
  • Placing a page in a presentation or document.
  • Posting a certificate or flyer online.
  • Getting a preview picture of a document.

How to convert

  • Open PDF to JPG and add your file.
  • Choose the picture quality. Higher quality means sharper pictures and bigger files.
  • Press Convert. Every page becomes a JPG.
  • Download pages one by one, or all together as a ZIP.

Which quality should I pick?

For viewing on a screen or sending in a chat, a medium quality is enough. For printing or when small text must stay crisp, pick the higher quality. Very high quality on a long PDF makes a large download, so convert only the pages you need if you can.

Only need some pages?

If you only want a few pages, first use Extract Pages to make a short PDF with just those pages, then convert it. This is faster and keeps the ZIP small.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the highest quality for a long PDF and getting a huge download.
  • Expecting text from the pictures to be selectable. Images are pictures only.
  • Converting the whole file when you only need one page.

When you need images instead of a PDF

Turning PDF pages into pictures is useful when you want to post a page on social media, add it to a slide, send a single page in a chat app or edit it in a photo editor. Images are also easier to preview in programs that do not display PDFs well.

Choosing quality and resolution

Higher resolution gives sharper text but a bigger file. For screens, a medium resolution is normally enough. For printing or zooming into small text, choose a higher setting. If the result is too large for your use, you can compress or resize the images afterwards.

  • Screen sharing and chat: medium quality.
  • Presentations: high quality, so text stays sharp on a projector.
  • Printing: the highest quality you can use.

What changes during conversion

A PDF page becomes a flat picture. Text can no longer be selected, searched or copied, and links stop working. Keep your PDF as the master file and use the images only for the purpose you need. If you need editable text from a scanned page, you will need text recognition, which is a different kind of tool.

Converting only the pages you need

Converting a hundred page document into a hundred pictures produces a pile of files that is hard to manage. If you need just one table, one certificate or one cover page, extract or select that page first and convert only it.

Name the images clearly after conversion, for example report page 01, report page 02, so they stay in order when you share them. Many chat apps display images in the order they were selected, so choose them one by one if the sequence matters.

If you plan to rebuild a PDF from the pictures later, keep a consistent resolution for all of them. Mixed resolutions result in pages of different sizes in the final document.
