How to Calculate Your Exact Age in Years, Months and Days

3 min read · Updated October 2026

Many forms ask for your age on a particular date, such as the last day to apply for an exam or a job. Counting by hand is error prone because months have different lengths.

How age is counted

Your age in years increases on your birthday. The months and days are counted from your last birthday. Someone born on 15 June 1990 is 33 years, 11 months and 30 days old on 14 June 2024, one day before their 34th birthday.

How to use the calculator

  • Open Age Calculator and pick your date of birth.
  • Leave the second date as today, or choose another date, such as an application deadline.
  • Read your age and the days to your next birthday.

Where it helps

  • Exam and job forms with an age limit on a cut-off date.
  • School admission, which often depends on age on 31 March or 1 April.

Born on 29 February?

In years that are not leap years, the birthday is counted on 28 February in this calculator. Rules for official purposes can differ, so check the instructions of the office you are applying to.
