How to Add Margins or White Space Around PDF Pages

3 min read · Updated October 2026

Some PDFs have text right at the edge. Adding space around each page gives you room for handwritten notes, or keeps text away from the printer edge.

How to add margins

  • Open Add Margins to PDF and add your file.
  • Choose millimetres or inches and type the space to add.
  • Choose white, light grey or black for the margin.
  • Press Add margins and download.

How it works

Each page gets bigger by the amount you chose on all four sides. The original page is placed in the middle without scaling, so the text stays sharp and can still be selected.

Ideas

  • 15 to 25 mm for a note-taking margin.
  • A light grey margin so a white page stands out on screen.
  • Use Change PDF Page Size if you need a fixed size such as A4.
